The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to accusations in a report by the U.S., which blamed Beijing for information manipulation through cyber attacks. China described the U.S. as a "real empire of lies" in its statement.
Following the release of a report by the U.S. accusing China of channeling billions of dollars annually into efforts for information manipulation, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded strongly. The statement from the ministry emphasized that the published report ignored the facts and asserted, "The facts have repeatedly proven that the U.S. is a complete empire of lies."
ALLEGATIONS OF MANIPULATION
In a report published on Thursday by the U.S. Department of State, China was accused of manipulating global media through censorship, data collection, and covert acquisition of foreign news sources. In July, Microsoft and the White House announced that a Chinese hacking group had infiltrated the email accounts of at least 25 institutions, including U.S. government agencies.
